Cecchetti's Circle Meditation works are extractions of areas from previous paintings. Through the repetitive act of painting each circle, as one watches one's breath in meditation, these paintings become tones of being and receptacles for energy. First the canvas is coated using a black gesso that is then followed by washed over dark pearlescent tones of color. Using thinned paint, rows of circles are brushed in, sometimes following the shapes of the dark undertones. Cecchetti layers glazes of circles upon circles, in a process that is constantly deleting and recreating itself. By this, the illusion of depth on the picture plane is created in a reflection of light, which causes visual shifts between the painting's undertones and its surface.
