For over twenty years I have used acrylic paint and traditional brushes to create a visual vocabulary combining riotous color and dynamic geometric forms to celebrate life. What might appear to the casual observer to be similar, almost decorative compositions, on closer inspection reveal complexities and variations in tone, content and form that suggest larger meanings about art and the art world, about politics, and about my personal life and experiences. My studio is on Florida's Atlantic coast, a few miles from Cape Canaveral, and my imagery continuously alludes to a synthesis of palm trees and rocket propulsion systems... organic variety vs. geometric purity
Since earning my MFA from the University of North Carolina in 1976, I have had over forty solo exhibitions in galleries and museums from Los Angeles to Miami, to Boston, New Orleans and Chicago. On many occasions I have worked on site specific commissions for art in public places. In 1994 my "skyship", a commission for a large corporation, was unveiled at the Whitney Museum in New York.
