Inspiration for my work does not come from things external. I rarely
explore vast landscapes or conduct intimate character studies, but
rather work from the inside out. My paintings explore internal self
discovery through the emotional response to color and texture. The
initial layering of transparent watercolor or inks begins the process.
After pouring the colors, moving them together and applying textured
objects for variety, I let the under painting dry. Studying this under
painting for several weeks before becoming enlightened as to where to
take it is not uncommon. I enjoy working in stages and often times work
several dozen under paintings before coming back to begin working into
them. When a direction is recognized, I will use watercolors, acrylics,
collage or enamel to finish the piece. The goal in using this process is
to produce a piece that is rich in texture, color and depth.
