ARTIST STATEMENT

Rosetta DeBerardinis is an abstract expressionist painter whose work requires no narrative. Her paintings merge energy, form, texture, space and color. She paints with the freedom of expression and a gestural style distinctly her own.

DeBerardinis paints for a living and lives to paint. Her work has been exhibited and sold at commercial art galleries and venues around the mid-Atlantic region. One of her ceramic sculptures was juried into the International Festival of Postmodern Ceramics and exhibited at the City Museum of Varazdin in Croatia in 2002. She served two years as an art tour guide in Bethesda, Maryland and Washington, DC. She was a volunteer for the Corcoran Gallery of Art's 47th Biennial and worked as a museum assistant at the Phillips Collection.

The artist and her paintings have been included in the recent book, Thinking About Art: The One Word Project and featured in the Voice of the Hill and the Hill Rag. She is a member of Washington Project for the Arts/Corcoran and Americans for the Arts and donates work to charity art auctions. In 2004, she granted MotoPhoto, Inc. a one-year licensing agreement to reproduce a limited number of her images on promotional merchandising products. In 1998, the Washington Sports and Entertainment Center (aka the MCI Center) commissioned her to design a historic permanent installation for its lobby.

Her art instruction began at age five, when her mother enrolled her at Pratt Institute in New York. Her interest in the creative process continued while obtaining degrees at Vassar College, the University of the District of Columbia and University of Baltimore School of Law and the London School of Social Research. Seven years ago, the Maryland resident transitioned from attorney, editor and published writer to become a full-time artist.

Today, she regularly exhibits and sells her work and has a roster of collectors; some own as many as ten paintings. Her future exhibitions include the Visual Art Studio, Richmond, VA; Design Within Reach in Bethesda, MD; and Sprint/Nextel Corporate Campus, Reston, VA. The artist currently works and resides in Silver Spring, Maryland.
