Carey Parks was born and raised in California. In 1984, she received dual Bachelor of Arts Degrees in Zoology and Fine Art from the University of California, at Santa Barbara. In 1986, she enrolled in the M.F.A. program at San Jose State University where she graduated with a Masters degree in Painting. Living and working in San Francisco she painted abstract urban landscapes in acrylics and oils. Currently, Carey lives in Connecticut where she teaches painting classes at her studio as well as the Silvermine School of Art. Her new body of work is called a "slice of life".
ARTIST STATEMENT
My paintings portray moments in time, each "a slice of life" from my life, giving a strong connection, purpose, and authenticity to my work. I am fascinated by how the outside line of a form defines character and personality of the subject matter, as well as creating movement and energy. My intent is to demonstrate dependent relationships between the light and dark "puzzle pieces" that build the composition, emphasizing the bold contrasts, strong pattern, and simplicity of design in everyday life.
