Biography and Statement
Born and raised in Tokyo Japan, Carefree Arizona artist Kaori Takamura works in acrylic on canvas with machine stitching in selected colored threads. Her unique style of work has developed from a long time practice as a package designer by trade. Regarding her Japanese heritage, her work has been influenced by the Zen scripture "Heart of Sutura" in which the Buddhist belief is that 'all phenomena are expressions of emptiness.' All her works are titled "Sewn" including her series "One Thru Ten," "The Street," and "The Shirt Shop".
Through her art, Takamura tries to communicate with viewers the quiet floundering-like emotions experienced through the decisions made on life’s journey. All her paintings are composed simply and symbolically applying multiple layers of paint with tangled and stitched colored threads which represent how one builds life experience through life's everyday thoughts and worldly desires.
