MORE INFO
What it does
- Gives even poured puddles and acrylic skins
- Results in a smooth surface, with no crazing, cracking or bubbles
- Dries to a high gloss, wet-look finish
- Lowers viscosity of heavier body paints, giving increased flow
- Extends your color further without affecting acrylic stability
- Maintains color opacity
- Maintains paint adhesion, durability and archival quality
How to use it
- Fully intermixable with all Liquitex products
- For best pours, start with with a tablespoon of Soft Body color to a cup of Pouring Medium (around 5% color to 95% medium) and adapt to suit your technique
- To use with Acrylic Ink or Heavy Body Acrylic, adjust ratio to get your desired consistency
- Stir gently to avoid creating foam - if bubbles appear, leave it to sit while the bubbles rise and disappear
- Use as a regular fluid medium extender - mix as much as you like into acrylic color to create the volume and viscosity you want
- Crazing and cracking can occur when the flow heights are very uneven so ensure your poured surface is level when drying
- To achieve a matte-look pour, a final application of Matte Spray Varnish over a dry Pouring Medium/Soft Body pour will give a smoother, more fluid result than using a matte paint or medium
How not to use it
- Do not shake or vigorously over-stir as this can impact the smooth appearance when dry
- Do not use with any non-acrylic media

Pouring Medium FAQs

Yes, but some need to be used in combination with a more flowing vehicle (a color or medium). You can add Liquitex Glass Beads, Black Lava or White Flakes to create texture, or use something like Liquitex Iridescent Medium with a color or in combination with Flow Aid Additive or a Pouring Medium. The different Matte, Gloss and Iridescent Pouring Mediums give you a range of lustre effects options to experiment with. Have a play and see what you end up with. -
The best way to get a matte pour is to use Liquitex Matte Pouring Medium. This will give the right consistency and the smooth, crackle-free surface you're after. Liquitex Matte Medium will create a flow with acrylic colors, but be aware that it may give a crackled finish, so it all depends what effect you want to create. -
The three Liquitex Pouring Mediums are designed specifically for this purpose, with a slow surface drying time to give a stable, crack-free finish. Choose from gloss, matte and iridescent options.
