`
What it does
  • Gives even poured puddles and acrylic skins
  • Results in a smooth surface, with no crazing, cracking or bubbles
  • Dries to a high gloss, wet-look finish
  • Lowers viscosity of heavier body paints, giving increased flow
  • Extends your color further without affecting acrylic stability
  • Maintains color opacity
  • Maintains paint adhesion, durability and archival quality
How to use it
  • Fully intermixable with all Liquitex products
  • For best pours, start with 5% medium to 95% Soft Body Acrylic and adapt to suit your technique
  • To use with Acrylic Ink or Heavy Body Acrylic, adjust ratio to get your desired consistency
  • Stir gently to avoid creating foam - if bubbles appear, leave it to sit while the bubbles rise and disappear
  • Use as a regular fluid medium extender - mix as much as you like into acrylic color to create the volume and viscosity you want
How not to use it
  • Do not shake or vigorously over-stir as this can impact the smooth appearance when dry
  • Do not use with any non-acrylic media

Pouring Medium FAQs

Other artists have asked us...

  • Can I use Liquitex effects mediums to make acrylic skins?
Yes, but some need to be used in combination with a more flowing vehicle (a color or medium). You can add Liquitex Glass Beads, Black Lava or White Flakes to create texture, or use something like Liquitex Iridescent Medium with a color or in combination with Flow Aid Additive or Pouring Medium. Have a play and see what you end up with.
  • Can I do acrylic pours with Liquitex Matte Medium?
Yes you can use Liquitex Matte Medium to create a good flow with acrylic colors, but be aware that Liquitex Pouring Medium gives a very glossy, wet-look finish and Matte Medium will obviously create a matte effect.
  • Which Liquitex medium should I use for the best pour?
We would recommend starting with Liquitex Pouring Medium. You can also try Liquitex Flow Aid Additive, Gloss or Matte Medium and Ultra Matte Medium.
