Polymer particle gel gives
a coarse, granular texture

1/2

1/2

Build flexible, coarse-grade sandy texture with this thick acrylic effects gel.

Sizes
8oz/237ml
What it does
  • Irregular size polymer particles add structure and texture to this 100% acrylic polymer gel
  • Dries to a semi-gloss, rough cement finish
  • Highly flexible and adhesive
  • Will not chip or crack on canvas
  • Gives an opaque/semi-opaque appearance - the thicker you apply, the more opaque it becomes
  • Can be used on its own, mixed with color or overpainted once dry
  • Provides an absorbent granite-like ground when mixed with Black Lava and Ceramic Stucco - ideal for Soft Body Acrylic application
  • Apply thickly to create bold 3D effects, or finely to give surface texture
  • Maintains color adhesion, durability and archival quality
How to use it
  • Fully intermixable with all Liquitex products
  • Apply with knife or brush
  • Can be thinned with a small amount of distilled water if required
  • Mix with different consistencies and ratios of acrylic color/medium to create custom texture
  • Start by adding very small amounts of color and build up as needed
  • Overpaint when dry with acrylic color
  • To use as a ground - apply a thin layer to surface and leave to dry
  • Apply thickly for sculptural texture
  • Mix with Gloss Medium to create a textured glaze
  • For abstract effects, apply different colors with a knife, building layers dry or wet in wet
  • Can be mixed with acrylic-compatible powdered pigments
How not to use it
  • If varnishing, don't be too vigorous as this can cause clouding or foaming - spray varnish will give best results
  • Do not use with any non-acrylic compatible media

Resin Sand FAQs

Other artists have asked us...

  • What’s the difference between Natural and Resin Sand mediums?
Two things: the particles - Resin Sand is actually tiny acrylic granules, while Natural Sand contains real sand. And the result - Resin Sand gives a coarser dry finish.
  • A friend has been adding sand to her acrylic paint to create texture – is this a good idea?
Sand will give instant texture, but it brings contaminants with it unless it's been sterilized, and this can affect the way your work ages. We would recommend using Natural Sand or Resin Sand mediums to create the same effect.
  • I want to experiment with texture – any suggestions?
You can start by creating texture literally from the ground up by using our Super Heavy Gesso. It will give you an archival base with high peaks and marks, ready to apply color to. Or try one of our effects mediums with color or neat.
