Enter a world of dynamic, luminous botanicals, glowing with an inner phosphorescence. Meet painter Tim Fowler, whose semi-abstract studies are informed by the migratory plants – particularly tobacco, cotton, bananas, plantain and sugar cane - infused into his DNA, following his ancestry from west Africa via the Caribbean to the UK.

Tim’s oversized canvases overwhelm the viewer with striking compositions in a distinctive signature color palette of vibrating pinks, electric greens and vivid blues. He uses a variety of techniques and materials including wet paints, inks and spray paint, applied using brushes, different aperture caps and marker paint mops to orchestrate purposeful marks, strokes, drips, scrapes and smears across the canvas.

“The majority of my work is made with acrylic, and it’s my favourite medium to use. It’s very versatile; you thin it down for a wash similar to watercolor, or you can add medium and spread it on thick. Also, the drying time for acrylic is quick, and it has the largest range of colors – especially fluorescent hues – which are important factors in my work.”

After graduating in Contemporary Fine Art, Tim started painting urban scenes, then portraits – both with an architectural, graphic approach – before evolving into botanicals. His work shows across the world in galleries from Amsterdam to Connecticut.
