IN THE ART WORLD
American minimalist Dan Flavin used the power of fluorescence in his sculptural installations. “Pink Out Of A Corner (To Jasper Johns)” (1963) was made the year he began to use commercially fluorescent light tubes and is held at the MoMA, NYC. In x British artist and part of the Liquitex family, Stuart Semple, created ‘the world’s pinkest pink’, his own fluorescent pink pigment. He famously made it available to all artists, except Anish Kapoor, in retaliation to Kapoor buying the exclusive rights to the Vantablack ‘blackest black’ pigment. He went on to do something similar with Barbie Pink, releasing a fluid fluorescent paint called ‘Pinkie’ in 2023, available to only non-Mattel artists.
