How to Use
  • Apply directly from the tub with a knife and overpaint or mix into acrylic color and use freely. Recommended thickness for crackling effect is between 5 and 10 mm
  • Can be used on its own and painted over once dry
  • Can be mixed with acrylic color – using no more than 10% paint to 90% medium
  • Cracking will vary depending on how thickly you apply it - the effects will be more obvious on thicker applications but will take longer to dry
  • When using on wood, seal with a base layer of fluid/gel medium and let dry before Crackle Paste application

So much fun to use!!

"I loved using this Liquitex crackle paste! I used it on a vintage looking nightstand for my son and it turned out great! I mixed a little paint with the paste and brushed it across the top of the nightstand. I left it nice and thick, per the instructions, to make sure it crackled. The effect was awesome! After a little time to dry, the results were amazing! My son and I are both so happy with it! It's a pretty thick paste, that's not hard to apply. I used a thick brush with very fine bristles to achieve the look I was going for. I very happy with the effects of this product and will happily recommend it to anyone looking to have some DIY fun!"

The perfect addition!

"I've been lusting after the perfect crackle paint medium for a really long time. I had this idea to paint a beautiful weathered fence with wild flowers after seeing a photograph in a magazine and no other product gave me the effect I was looking for. Liquitex did exactly what I wanted! It was even better when applied to my "fence" with thin layers, allowing it to dry in between. I used with both a dark brown color and a while color and the effect created such a deep, lovely texture. This is definitely worth adding to your painting toolkit and I can't stop painting fences."

does not work for me

"I tried this product in multiple ways. I tried thin layers and thicker layers, I tried it plain and over other color base coats, and I could not get it to work well. Too thin layers didn't crack, and using the suggested thickness just caused it to crack off my medium. A middle thickness left some cracks if using it without mixing in a color, but it left only small cracks that would disappear if I tried to cover it with any coats of a different color. Overall, I would not recommend this product."

Works great

"The Liquitex crackle paste works great. As long as you read the instructions before you apply it, it 100% does crackle. You can't apply too many coats too quickly or use a heated blow dryer to dry the mixture. If you do it won't crack right. All in all this is a good product. Just follow the instructions and it'll be peachy!"
