MORE INFO

The Formula

If you thought Soft Body was just a watered-down Heavy Body, you'd be wrong. This flowing low viscosity formula was in fact created first and actually gives triple the coverage area of Heavy Body. The two paints have compatible binders and pack the same high pigment load. But if you thin Heavy Body with water or mediums, you reduce concentration and get noticeably weaker colors. Paint feel, performance and stability are also impacted, so choose the right consistency of paint for the job.

A Brand New Design

When you’re working, your tools need to work for you. Our ergonomic bottle and clear labeling have been designed in collaboration with artists, to help us create what we believe is the perfect format. It’s fully reusable and recyclable - and not a drop of paint will go to waste.

Versatility

If you had to choose one paint – this would be the one you’d get most out of. Soft Body suits a wide range of techniques and applications. It loves almost any surface and dries flexibly and quickly for easy layering and masking. Want something new? Use a professional medium to change its character further.

Surfaces

If it sticks to it, you can use it. Use Soft Body on:

  • stretched canvas
  • photo paper
  • plaster & brick
  • clay & pottery
  • paper & board
  • wood, fabric & glass

Archival

On a client’s wall. In a gallery. Your work needs to stay as you intended. As with all Liquitex products, the pigments in Soft Body have passed extensive tests for lightfastness.

Each pigment is rated according to the American Society for Testing & Materials (ASTM), and we only use pigments rated ASTM I or II*. This means your work will have the greatest archival permanence possible – at least 50 years+ in gallery conditions – with no color shifting or fading, to stay vibrant and true.

*Some pigments, such as fluorescents, are not rated

Soft Body FAQs

Other artists have asked us...

  • Is it true that Soft Body was the first acrylic paint ever invented?
Yes it's true that it was the first commercially available water-based acrylic paint designed for artists, back in the 1950s. Then it was called Liquitex Medium Viscosity.
  • Are you doing cadmium-free colors in Soft Body?
Yes! We are now offering Liquitex cadmium-free colors in Soft Body, so you can choose your consistency. We might look to offer these colors in our other ranges in the future.
  • Is the Soft Body the same paint as before?
Yes. Nothing has changed in the formulation of Liquitex Soft Body, it's just the outer packaging that has changed.
