There has been much discussion about the potential harm of cadmium pigments, but there’s no global consensus on this issue. Cadmium itself is a heavy metal that can be harmful to health but some evidence suggests that cadmium pigments are not, which is why they’re considered safe in some regions. We believe that artists should have a choice and be able to decide for themselves, so we have developed the first cadmium-free acrylics that provide parity performance to genuine cadmium paints. The cadmium-free alternative is a safer choice since contrary to genuine cadmium paints, it qualifies for the AP symbol which means it has been assessed as safe to use in a toxicological evaluation conducted by ACMI. In addition, although not regulated we recommend that genuine cadmium paints should be handled with care and not rinsed down the sink.
