Lightfastness | How long will it resist fading?

  • Each pigment is rated on scale by the American Society for Testing & Materials (ASTM). Liquitex paints are all rated ASTM I (excellent) or II (very good) and considered permanent and lightfast for 50-100+ years in gallery conditions. Our metallic and fluorescent colors are naturally less lightfast.

Opacity/Transparency | We communicate opacity/transparency clearly on our packaging based on three categories:

  • Opaque: these colors do not allow light to pass through the color layer and offer the best coverage or hiding power.
  • Semi-opaque: these allow for some light to pass through the color layer and sit between opaque and transparent colors
  • Transparent: these colors offer the least coverage and allow light to pass through the color layer to the surface below.
  • Series:
Pigments come from a variety of sources and have different prices according to their rarity, processing and milling costs. We group our colors into a 'series' pricing structure according to how much each one takes to make. Series 1 colors contain the most inexpensive pigments, while Series 4 and 5 color contain the most expensive pigments.

MEET LIQUTEX ACRYLIC MARKER

MORE CONTROL. MORE EXPRESSION.

Shake it up, pop the cap and feel inspiration flow.

Enjoy the freedom to be able to create wherever, whenever, and however you want. Our pro range is all about giving you boundary-free ways to work and Acrylic Marker is a format with a difference.

Available in two sizes, each fine art marker-style pen is filled with professional acrylic paint that’s been made with only the finest, artist quality pigments. Fast-drying, lightfast and permanent, you don't need to worry about bleeding, smudging or fade-out.

PERMANENT

Water-soluble when wet, yet permanent and water resistant when dry. You get the best of both worlds. Once applied, all the water in the paint evaporates quickly to leave a flexible acrylic film of color behind. This is permanent and doesn’t move - which means you can overpaint or varnish without bleeding to achieve multi-layered surface effects.

PURE PIGMENTS

This is a fine art paint marker. Made with fine art materials. You can rely on the highest quality professional paint when you use Acrylic Marker. Pigments are processed using the latest basket bead-mill technology, where tiny reinforced ceramic beads give fine dispersion, great color development, strength and brightness. You get true color purity and archival stability in a pen. They’re also safe to use. Acrylic Markers are independently tested by the Art and Creative Materials Institute at Duke University, and hold the Approved Safety (AP) seal.

HOW TO USE
  • Activate it with a good shake to thoroughly mix the paint
  • Press the nib down a few times on scrap material to open the internal valve - paint is released whenever the nib is depressed, so don't overwork it as you'll get too much paint
  • When paint appears on the nib, pause and wait before pressing it again. When it's adequately saturated, test the flow on scrap material and you are good to go
  • Repeat as necessary and remember to keep the lid on when not in use, to stop the paint evaporating
OPACITY

Sheer or solid color, or something in between? Each pigment has its own unique natural character and this dictates its opacity. Our professional acrylic paint is formulated to let the pigment express itself fully, so you have a choice of opaque, semi-opaque and transparent colors to help you achieve a range of effects. Check the opacity symbol on the barrel.

CARE
  • Too much paint coming out? Fix it by wiping away the excess paint, don't pump the nib and your marker should be good to go again
  • Dirty nib? If the paint is still wet, take the nib out and rinse it with warm water. If it's dried-on paint or it's simply looking a bit worn out, go for a replacement nib
  • Paint not flowing smoothly? It probably needs a good shake to mix the formula properly. Store markers horizontal when not in use.
ARCHIVAL

On a client’s wall. In a gallery. Your work needs to stay as you intended. As with all Liquitex products, the pigments in Acrylic Marker have passed extensive tests for lightfastness. Each pigment is rated according to the American Society for Testing & Materials (ASTM), and we only use pigments rated ASTM I or II*. This means your work will have the greatest archival permanence possible – at least 50 years+ in gallery conditions – with no color shifting or fading, to stay vibrant and true.

*Fluorescent and metallic pigments are naturally less lightfast

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Other creatives have asked us...

If your Acrylic Markers are water-based, does the paint wash away when it gets wet?

No, when wet, our Acrylic Markers can be cleaned up with water, and the paint easily washes off your hands and skin. Once dry, the paint is permanent, durable, and weatherproof and won't wash off.

How should I varnish work made with Acrylic Markers?

Varnish artwork made with Acrylic Markers after 24 hours of drying. Use Liquitex Professional Spray Varnish for best results with fluorescent colors.

How should I store my Acrylic Markers?

Store Liquitex Acrylic Markers horizontally to maintain color consistency. Avoid storing vertically with the nib facing down.

How much coverage can I achieve with one Acrylic Marker?

One Acrylic Marker provides comparable coverage to other paint marker brands, covering approximately 0.5 to 2.5 square meters, depending on marker size.

How do I activate an Acrylic Marker?

To activate an Acrylic Marker, shake it well, depress the nib a few times, and ensure the nib isn't over-depressed to avoid flooding.

Can I use your Acrylic Markers with my solvent-based spray paint?

Yes, providing the spray paint is thoroughly dry, our Acrylic Markers can be used with solvent-based spray paint.

Can I replace the nib on my Acrylic Marker?

Easily replace Acrylic Marker nibs with our available nib packs for fine and wide markers.

How do I clean up after using your Acrylic Markers?

Clean up after using Acrylic Markers with soap and water while wet. Once dry, they are permanent and durable.

I have paint leaking and dripping out of the nib on my Acrylic Marker. What do I do?

Paint leaking from the nib is likely due to over-pressing. Wipe away excess paint, shake the marker, and avoid vigorous nib pumping to prevent flooding.
