A Positive Mark

At Liquitex, we believe in the power of artistic expression to create a better world where artists and communities can thrive: a world that gives back more than it takes, and that generates social and environmental value.

We know change can be a challenge, but we’re taking immediate steps to make our vision a reality. By empowering our community, innovating our products and packaging, and integrating sustainability into our business practices, we can continue to offer the high-quality products our customers expect and collectively put a positive mark on our future.

1. EMPOWERING ARTISTS, EMPLOYEES, AND COMMUNITIES

We’re supporting a world where generations of artists can create with confidence – prioritizing safe spaces for artistic expression. We are:

PRIORITIZING DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND INCLUSION (DEI)

Liquitex earns its success through inclusion, from enacting thoughtful company policies to supporting artists from many diverse backgrounds. Our employees go through annual DEI training and can join regional DEI councils of our parent company, Colart.

PARTNERING WITH FORWARD-THINKING ORGANIZATIONS

We use our position in the art materials industry to strengthen other groups that serve the artistic community. Our work with the Fire Island Residency and Sing for Hope supports the arts gives back to the community.

SUPPORTING EMERGING ARTISTS WITH OUR RESIDENCY PROGRAM

We make opportunities for creators. Our Just Imagine residency program supports artists in need by providing studio space, materials, mentorship, and exposure that promotes their work and grows their audience.

IMPROVING EMPLOYEE BENEFITS AND WELLBEING

Enhanced sick pay, flexible hours, and options for remote work are just some of the ways we promote a healthy work–life balance for our team members. Our Wellbeing Ambassadors also organize activities to promote overall health for our employees, driving engagement and inspiring a sense of belonging.

PROVIDING SAFE ART MATERIALS

All Liquitex products are certified with the Art and Creative Materials Institute, Inc. in an effort to keep our customers as safe as possible.

2. INNOVATING TO CREATE A MORE POSITIVE IMPACT ON THE ENVIRONMENT

From packaging to product composition, we’re committed to innovative sustainability solutions that retain product quality and performance – leaving nothing but our handprints behind. We are:

SOURCING RESPONSIBLY HARVESTED WOOD

80% of Liquitex’s wood and paper products are Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified, to ensure that items such as canvas backings and brushes are responsibly sourced.

MINIMIZING OUR CARBON FOOTPRINT

Since 2019, Liquitex has continued to see a net reduction in total CO2 emissions, and we aim to be fully carbon neutral by 2030. As a member of CEPE (the European Council of the Paint, Printing Ink and Artists’ Colours Industry), we consistently evaluate the full life cycle of our products.

REDUCING OUR TOTAL WASTE

We are committed to recycling 50% of our total waste and reducing 50% of all hazardous waste by 2025 with our parent company, Colart. To ensure this carries through at every level of our business, we educate our artists with upcycling and disposal tips to reduce waste.

REMOVING SUBSTANCES OF HIGH CONCERN

We have also removed 28 substances of very high concern (SVHC) from our products since 2017, voluntarily and ahead of legal deadlines, as part of our parent company, Colart.

REMOVING PLASTIC WHEREVER POSSIBLE

Our goal of removing plastic in the packaging of Liquitex products has resulted in exciting innovations toward product sustainability. We are working to remove plastic vacforms from our paint sets and our Liquitex Basics 60 × 22ml has been certified for Amazon Tier 1 Frustration-Free Packaging (FFP).

OFFERING ALTERNATIVES TO CADMIUM PAINT

Liquitex now offers cadmium-free paint alternatives to customers. While cadmium pigments deliver intensely bright colors, cadmium is a heavy metal which is seen to cause health concerns in certain geographies.

ENGINEERING SUSTAINABLE ART MATERIALS

We are committed to innovative sustainability solutions that retain product quality and performance. This year, we’re introducing a number of products, including a line of canvas made from 100% recycled plastic bottles and fastened to FSC-certified wood.

3. CREATING BETTER BUSINESS PRACTICES

We’re making changes to our manufacturing and raw material sourcing practices to safeguard human rights and create a positive impact throughout our supply chain. We are:

BEING ACCOUNTABLE TO THE BUSINESS COMMUNITY

As a member of Sedex (Supplier Ethical Data Exchange), we and our parent company, Colart, share emissions and sustainability data with our business counterparts.

MEETING STANDARDS OF ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT

Our two main factories, in France and China, have been awarded the ISO 14001 Environmental management and ISO 9001 Quality management systems certifications, demonstrating that they meet the highest standards of environmental performance.

END-TO-END VALUE CHAIN EVALUATION OF ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT

From sourcing raw materials to transportation and waste management, Liquitex is working with suppliers and distributors every step of the way to minimize our environmental impact.
